Malinga, who retired as a player in 2021, is the top wicket-taker in the IPL with 170 wickets across nine seasons for Mumbai Indians. In 2018, he was Mumbai's bowling coach also, and recently, he was named Sri Lanka's bowling system mentor for the T20I series in Australia.
At Royals, Malinga will work close by his previous skipper Kumar Sangakkara, who is the Royals lead coach and overseer of cricket, and Steffan Jones, who was named as high-performance fast bowling coach previous week.
